Used to (EG 18)
- used to do - it is mean that something
regulary happened in the past but no longer happens.
EXAMPLES:
I used to play tennis a lot, but now I'm too lazy.
Do you go to the cinema very often? Not now,
but I used to.
- We also use used to for past situations which no longer
exist.
EXAMPLES:
We used
to live in a small village but now we live in London.
I've
started drinking cofee recently. I never used to like it
before.
- The normal question form is did ... use to
...?
EXAMPLES:
Did you
use to eat a lot of sweets when you were a child?
Did you use to play football at
school?
Be/get used to (EG 61)
- be used to +
ing - it is not new or strange for
me.
EXAMPLES:
He is used to living
alone.
She wasn't used to driving on the left.
She
got used to driving on the left.
- After be/get used you can't use the infinitive,
because to is a preposition
